Release Me

Please release me let me go
For I don't love you anymore
To waste our lives would be a sin
Release me and let me love again

I have found a new love dear
And I will allways want her near
Her lips are warm while yours are cold
Release me darling let me go

Please release me can't you see?
You'd be a fool to cling to me
To live a lie would bring us pain
Release me let me love again

Please release me let me go
For I don't love you anymore
To waste our lives would be a sin
Release me and let me love again

You know this song and you like it
Seems like one of your favorites
Hear me now, hear me clear
I have found a new love dear

Release me baby can't you see
You'd be a fool to stick to me
To live your lie would bring me pain
Please unlock the ball and chain

Please release me can't you see?
You and I it just can' t be
Get out of my face
Pack up your things don't leave a trace

I have found a new love dear
Tell me what's wrong with your ears
Do I need to send a shrink your way?

Ok, listen to what Engelbert has to say

Please release me let me go
For I don't love you any more
To waste our lives would be a sin
Release me and let me love again

(Libère-moi)

Me (and Let me Love Again).

July 21, 2011 Dear editor,

One day, in a jam session, we stumbled upon a riff worth to explore. We worked on it and composed a song. To show the rest of the band the melody I had come up with, I sang it using the words of the song Release Me. Why those lyrics? I have no idea. It was kind of odd. I guess they were just hidden in the back of my head somewhere. For sure, the words did fit this new melody.

But why those words? How come they came back to me? My grandmother, my parents used to listen to that song but I hadn’t heard it in a while. When I shared that with my girlfriend, I found out that she knew those lyrics by heart?!?

How come three generations would remember those words? I guess the only explanation is that they are timeless. Timeless for sure : when I started to do some reserch about the song, I was amazed that it was originally written in 1946!

We all agreed in the band to keep those lyrics and ask for the permission to use them. This is why I am writiing to you today.

You will find, accompanying this letter, a CD with an unmastered rough mix of our song on it. You’ll notice that the melody is completely different and that we’ve added a few words to the original text of Release Me. We needed a few more. Also, who else than Engelbert nowadays can break-up with a woman and make her believe that it is for the better? That’s problaby why our last verse is a « little » more direct. Women have changed since the 40’s or the 60’s.

To conclude, we would be extremely grateful if you would give us premission to use the lyrics and only then we would complete our self-financed and self-produced album.

Best regards,

Pat, for The Disposable Idols
